Add Text to PDF lives in the FreePDF editor
Open your PDF in the browser editor — add text to pdf runs right on the page, with your file rendered by PDF.js and never uploaded anywhere.
What does the Add Text to PDF tool do?
The FreePDF Add Text tool opens your PDF in the browser editor. Pick the Text tool, click anywhere on the page, type your text, and drag it into exact position.
On export, pdf-lib writes your text into the document at the right coordinates. The original page content is untouched.

Privacy — your files stay on your device
Add Text to PDF runs entirely inside your browser using the same open-source engine stack that powers all FreePDF tools. Your files are loaded into browser memory, processed on your CPU, and written back out as a direct download. Nothing is sent to any server — you can verify this in your browser devtools → Network tab. Close the tab and everything is cleared from memory.

Known limitations
FreePDF is honest about what it can and cannot do:
- Text is added as an overlay — original text cannot be edited in place
- Standard PDF fonts are used on export
- Very long text may need splitting into multiple boxes
