What does the Sign PDF tool do?

The FreePDF Sign tool opens your document in the browser-based PDF editor, where you can draw your signature with a mouse or finger, type it in several handwriting styles, or upload an image of it.

Drag the signature to exactly the right spot on any page, then download the signed PDF. Everything happens on your device.

How to sign

   Open your PDF in the editor

   Drag and drop the document you need to sign. It loads directly into your browser — nothing is uploaded.

   Choose a signing method

   Draw with mouse or finger, type your name in a handwriting style, or upload a signature image.

   Place and position

   Drag the signature anywhere on the page. It is added as an overlay layer on top of the original content.

   Download the signed PDF

   pdf-lib writes the signature into the document in your browser. No account, no watermark.

Privacy — your files stay on your device

Sign PDF runs entirely inside your browser using the same open-source engine stack that powers all FreePDF tools. Your files are loaded into browser memory, processed on your CPU, and written back out as a direct download. Nothing is sent to any server — you can verify this in your browser devtools → Network tab. Close the tab and everything is cleared from memory.

Known limitations

FreePDF is honest about what it can and cannot do:

• This creates a visual electronic signature, not a cryptographic digital signature
• For legally binding signed documents, check your local e-signature laws
• The signature layer is flattened on export
